The personal computer (PC)

Obvious, but still worth a few words of wisdom. First of all, all PCs under 5 years old should be capable of recording music, and although there are some wonderful bespoke PCs from specialist music PC manufacturers, you do not need to go that far that soon. It is, however, a sad fact of PC recording life that, the more things you do with your PC, the more likely you are to have problems with recording music. This is especially true of PC games. If you can, run a separate drive or partition with Windows XP and your music software, and not much else. It is also a good idea, although not essential, to record your music onto a different hard drive from the one containing your software.
